ASP Nuke Tasks:

ASP Nuke Themes
by Kenneth Richards - Wednesday, June 02, 2004
from the Development dept.

I am currently working on the specification that defines how themes (also know as skins) will be applied to the ASP Nuke project. My plan so far is to bundle all of the theme elements into a zip file and allow for downloading through the ASP Nuke admin interface.

Included in the ASP nuke package will be an XML description that conforms to a custom DTD (Document Type Definition) that will be created specifically for ASP Nuke Themes. By standardizing the method by which themes are described, we can allow many users to contribute their own themes to the theme repository.

The theme repository, as you may have guessed will simply be a browsable listing of ASP Nuke Themes you may download and apply to your site. Themes will be grouped by category and searchable by keyword.

One of the more advanced features of my themable interface will allow an administrator to "try out" a theme without making it visible to the entire public. By this, we mean it will only be turned on for the administrator and others will see the regular default theme assigned to your site.

This is a major step forward for the ASP Nuke project and should allow webmasters more control over their site look and feel. Since themes also have some influence of the layout of the nuke modules, it may also have some bearing on the layout of major sections of the site. More details will be posted soon.
